Overall Aim: We aim to inspire pupils to develop a love of literature and the habit of reading widely and for enjoyment. Our objective is to expose pupils to a rich diet of texts to enable pupils to acquire a wide vocabulary and develop analytical skills to evaluate and question writers’ viewpoints. We aspire to encourage pupils to share ideas to champion self-expression verbally, whilst also fostering a respect and tolerance towards the views and opinions of others.

By considering the plight and experiences of fictional characters, pupils come to appreciate the hardships and affliction of others. We want our pupils to be able to write effectively, accurately and convincingly for a range of audiences and purposes. Through the opportunity to write creatively, pupils are given the chance to find their own voice and mode of expression. It is our target to ensure all pupils leave Exhall Grange with an English qualification which reflects the best of their ability.
